Curt's Wine Notes

curt barr Curt Barr is the manager of our Ottauquechee Valley Winery store. If you've ever visited the Quechee store and had the pleasure of meeting Curt, you already know that he's a really entertaining person to be around, full of wonderful Vermont stories, wit and humor. Well, Curt is also a bit of a wine expert himself. In fact, you'll find a whole section of the Quechee store dedicated to Curt's wine making supplies.

Got a wine making question or a great wine related tip? Send Curt an email.

Below are a few of Curt's wine notes. Be sure to check back from time to time, because we'll surely be adding more to this list.

vermont apple wine

  1. Store unopened wines away from light and in a fairly cool place, ideally 55 degrees. In winter do not store wine in an unheated area...in summer store in a cool place.

  2. Wine glasses should be filled halfway or less. This allows you to swirl the wine and help the development of the bouquet.

  3. When planning a wine party you should figure on one bottle of wine for every two guests. A .750 ml bottle like ours hold 4-5 glasses.

  4. An ice buket filled with a mixture of half ice and half water will chill a wine faster than ice alone. White wine will reach its optimum serving temperature in about 30 min., using this method.

  5. Never cook with any wine you wouldn't drink! Cooking will bring out the worst in an inferior wine.
