The North River Winery, Vermont's first bonded winery, is located in the picturesque foothills of Windham County, situated along the North River, a popular trout fishing stream. The 1850's farm house and barn which house the winery, are filled with the charm of an age when wines were made by local residents.

Started in 1985 the winery has gone from making 2,500 gallons of wine annually to about 20,000 gallons. Approximately 90% of the fruit used by the winery is grown at the Dwight Miller Orchards in Windham County, a State of Vermont, certified organic Orchard. We make 11 different wines, ranging from a very dry, varietal wine, Vermont Pear to sweeter dessert-style wines such as Vermont Harvest, which contains cinnamon and Vermont maple syrup. We also make a Rhubarb wine, which is 100% organic and does not contain any sulfites! Although fruit wines can be made sweet they can also be made into dry dinner wines that are not much different from dry grape wines.

winery gift shop All fermentation, bottling and distribution are done on the premises. We produce about 100,000 bottles of wine each year. Approximately 60% of that is sold at the winery's retail locations. We have a distributor in Vermont servicing our retail customers and restaurants. We have a small wholesale distribution in Massachusetts.

Our wine is a feature wine of the Skyline Restaurant in Marlboro, The White House of Wilmington, and many other fine restaurants through-out Vermont. Our hard cider is featured at the Simon Pearce Restaurant at, "The Mill," in Quechee, Vermont.

The Winery operates a seasonal tasting room at the Hogback Mountain Gift Shop located on Route 9 in Marlboro, Vermont from late May through October. Our year-round tasting rooms are located in Bennington and Manchester Center. The Bennington Tasting Room is located at Camelot Village on Route 9 West in Bennington and is open seven days a week from 10:00am to 5:30pm. The Manchester Tasting Room is located at Vermont Magic on Route 7A in Manchester Center and is open seven days a week from 10:00am to 5:00pm. For more information on these locations please email Matt Burdick.

In September of 1999 we opened the Ottauquechee Valley Winery. The Ottauquechee Valley Winery is located on Rte. 4 in Quechee, Vermont, just East of the famous Quechee Bridge and Gorge, a famous attraction in the Upper Valley Region.

The Ottauquechee winery offers 7 wines for tasting as well as an eclectic assortment of wine related foods and gifts. The development of the Ottauquechee line has resulted in a successful partnership with the area's fine businesses and organizations. As a primary sponsor of the Annual Quechee Balloon Festival this year, the Winery looks forward to becoming more involved in the development and success of the entire Ottauquechee Valley! The Ottauquechee Winery is conveniently located off I-91 I-89, just West of White River Junction, Vermont. It is open daily from 10am to 5pm year round.
